The mixer item "sysdefault" will show all installed sound card devices, and you will have various options to adjust various volume controls using "sliders" which you can turn off and on using the "dot" below the volume slider. If you do not see the mixer devices, hit "F6", check that the mic button in the lower right is on/enabled. If you bring up "Qasmixer" and make it fullscreen, on the right side you will have mixer devices where you can control your system sound. Sound "Mixers" can be a little confusing if you are not familiar with them. There are some really nice graphical (GUI) programs for sound that start with "Qas", like the fantastic "Qasmixer", in the Software Manager or Synaptic Package Manager (SPM) that you can install and use. The front mic jack works perfectly well, but I have never been able to get the combo mic/line-in jack in the back to work with a mic.Īnd, if the mic volume is too loud, you will get static.įYI: Install "pulse audio volume control" from the "Synaptic Package Manager (SPM)". On my computer, there are 2 mic inputs, one in the back that is a combination mic/line-in and another mic input in the front. If you run " inxi -Fxzd" and " lsusb" from the console terminal prompt, highlight the results, copy and paste them back here, that should provide enough information.
It would help to know more about your system setup. Here's a sample I recorded of the hiss, you'll also notice that it changes pitches at times.I just read your post and the good replies to it. I was seeing online somewhere that the 2i2 had horrible drivers for win10. I also uninstalled the interface drivers, and re-installed. (I read this tip on another post) I have also taken the channel strip out of the equation, connected the mic directly to the interface and the hiss is still there. I've unplugged the laptop to run only on battery, but the hissing persists.
You can hear this hiss as soon as you turn up the gain instantly at the very lowest gain levels.
My problem is I'm getting a constant (white noise) hissing in my headphones and comes through on my recordings.
